Historical and Theatrical Costuming
My Fashion Design Experience
I have been sewing my own clothing since I was nine, and through years of exploring textile arts, I have built an extensive repertoire of skills in sewing, tailoring, quilt-making, and historical fashion. I continually explore new avenues of historical fashion—different eras, locations, and materials—while adding to my personal wardrobe of period pieces. Some periods I have previously worked in (and love) are the European 1180s, 1350-1490, and 1520s, as well as European and American 1750-1780 and 1840-1900.

My Services:
– Personalized historical, fantasy or experimental fashion requests; single items or full ensembles
– Custom costuming for large projects; plays, films etc.
– Historical fashion project planning and design
– Historical fashion consultation sessions

Past Projects
The Lion In Winter - 2024
In January of 2024 I worked as the sole costumer for a student directed play at Williams College. I designed and created the entire cast’s costumes from start to finish. The process of creating these costumes consisted of several steps. First, I researched the fashion of the plays time period (1183) to better understand the world in which the characters lived and how they dressed. My goal was to create costumes that were as historically accurate as possible, while working with the time, budget and resources available to me. Next, I worked on designing and planning the costumes for each character, based as accurately as possible on my research. I worked with the cast to gather measurements and specifications for each character before diving into the extensive and labor-intensive sewing process. This step took the longest, sewing nine full costumes myself is no small task, but was the most enjoyable. After many fittings, alterations, and weeks of work, the costumes were complete and ready for the stage. See the costumes in action below.
